Genesis chapter thirty records the growth of Jacob’s family through Leah, Rachel, Bilhah, and Zilpah, and the increasing tension between Jacob and Laban. Chapter thirty-one recounts Jacob’s departure from Haran and covenant agreement with Laban at Mizpah. Chapter thirty-two describes Jacob’s return toward Canaan, his fear of Esau, and his wrestling encounter at Peniel where his name is changed to Israel.
